Guatemala - Part Two - Relationship to Space

There are so many places to be sending love to in the world right now. If you’ve got some extra space in your heart consider lighting a candle for Lake Atitlan 🤍

The story continues: the second trip to Guatemala
When I was in 8th grade and I was immersed in a project all about how spaces impact our experiences. More specifically I’d chosen to go to 6 different yoga studios in Vermont and Guatemala and focus on how the studio space itself impacted the yoga practice. How did our bodies relate to the space? How did we settle into the space? How did the walls (or lack thereof) shift the experience of the class? It was an imperfect study in so many ways, but it guided me to notice the energy spaces themselves hold.

Our family had already had this trip planed and I was able to design the project around the trip weaving in time at each studio! At The Yoga Forest (now @kawoqforest ) there were only 3 other people in class, two of whom were also from Vermont (love a good small world connection!) That class was on a palapa with incredible views of the lake, small waterfalls flowing around us and birds singing their songs. It was a level of peace that settled deeply into my being. Forever thankful for those lands and the people and space who made that experience possible.

Of course as a 13 year old this trip was also a playful reconnection to the lake, the school, and people who made San Marcos home.
